Fundraising and Grantsmanship

This course will introduce the library manager to fundraising and grantwriting for librarians. Topics include alternative fundraising through library foundations, friends of libraries, trusts and wills, endowments, gifts and donations, volunteers, and partnerships; as well as grant writing, including grant sources, compliance, reporting, and evaluation. The student will create a submissible grant during this course.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Analyze and propose several alternative ways of fundraising
  • Organize and work with a library board, foundation, and friends of the library
  • Recruit and manage volunteers
  • Develop partnerships
  • Plan and develop a grant project
  • Find and research an appropriate funding source
  • Write a successful grant proposal
